Labour Market Demands, Employability and Authenticity

Abstract Finding employment has been a challenge for young adults in recent years. This is not only due to high unemployment rates, but also because entering working life more complicated than before. It no longer just question of credentials and skills. ‘Employability’ depends on investments personal capacities: labour market demands recruitment exceed the capacity employees’ bodies minds. article asks what increasing one’s employability (aged 18–30) experience relation their education how they respond these ideas, especially idea modifying minds bodies—habitus—in order increase employability. What are complying with or resisting? How why doing so? The draws interviews 40 Finnish women men. data analysis reveals that ideals emphasising affective bodily capacities dispositions shared by everyone. However, attitude demeanour seems be less threatening does changing appearance body. Changes body associated rules codes dictated from above, whereas mindset usually conceived as self-development; thus, it seen contrary authenticity. Identification line work an important factor accepting demeanour. should asked if importance authenticity taken into consideration governmental youth policies.
